“Toronto’s FutureWeather”
Date/Time: Wednesday 24 November 2010 – 7.00pm to 9.00pm (Sign-in and refreshments at 7.00pm; We will begin sharp at 7.20pm)
Location: Lecture Hall #1190, Bahen Centre Information Technology, 40 St. George Street, Toronto; within the University of Toronto Downtown Campus (Lecture Hall #1190 is on the ground floor of the Bahen Centre, at the west end of the building; within walking distance from the College Street street car, or two traffic lights west of the Queen's Park subway station; metered parking is available on campus in King's College Circle between University College and Convocation Hall)
Speaker: James W. S. Young, PhD, P.Eng. James W.S. Young, Ph.D., P.Eng., Senior Air Quality and Weather Specialist, SENES. Dr. Young has more than 37 years of experience in the direction and management of atmospheric research and its application. He has an international reputation in air quality modelling and prediction. Dr. Young has extensive experience in consulting with government departments at all levels, other nations, international organizations as well as with industry, universities and the private sector.
Abstract: Toronto’s Future Weather The talk will address the future weather of the City of Toronto. Climate Change scenarios were combined with SENES’s detailed weather prediction models to produce weather summaries for two future periods 2041 to 2050, and 2070 to 2079. Hourly weather scenarios have been estimated for the two 10-year future periods, and some typical and specialized, extreme weather summaries will be discussed as they relate to engineering / infrastructure needs. This is the first time that climate scenarios have been studied to this level of detail.
